RE: Kayak(s) on the roof?

Although I have not used this system personally, I always thought this system would work well for loading kayaks onto a high camper roof:

RE: Request to manufacters: I want a true off-road TC

Am I the only one here who dreams of a camper that goes WAY beyond the hard sided popup idea to a point where the camper looks like just a rectangular piece of cargo sitting in the bed of the truck, no higher than the cab of the truck? You hop out of the truck and hit a button, and pieces raise up and slide out and tilt and slide and scoot and raise...and about 30 seconds later you've got something the size of a Class A land yacht standing before you with acres of space inside?
It just really seems to me that a popup camper and/or a TC with some slide-outs only scratches the surface of what could be done to make a compact and very portable piece of "cargo" transform itself into a really full featured large living space.
Call me a dreamer, but I say this can be done to an extent that anything we've seen so far would be laughable by comparison. Some day when I retire...

This is the closest to your dream that I am aware of:

RE: Favourite Places in BC?

My favorites so far are Mabel lake Prov Park (Vernon area), and Long Beach National Park (Vancouver Island). These are both good for long stays, but are also very popular and can be pretty crowded during peak times.
This summer my daughter (6 y.o.) and I are taking a 2 week trip, have not made any firm plans, but we are considering Ts'yl-os (Chilko Lake) and Tweedsmuir (South) Provincial Parks. Can anyone provide any feedback on either of these locations?

RE: Suggesting RV NET expedition portal

Thanks, Farctic, for your seconding the idea of an Expedition Portal here.
Silversand;
It sounds like you have a lot of support for your idea. However, I would like to make one small suggestion. I would respectfully request that you call it something other than "Expedition Portal".
www.expeditionportal.com is a thriving expedition website and forum with over 3,000 members. It would be a shame to cause confusion with 2 such similar names.
Thanks

RE: Northern Lite 6'-10" mounted on full size 8' bed.

Has anyone ever mounted one of the smaller Northern Lite campers, i.e. their 6'-10" model, onto a full size truck with an 8' long standard bed?
Yep! Here are some pics:

I put a 9" basement under mine, so that I could mount the battery and charger under the camper plus tons of storage space.

Mark
on edit: sorry I just noticed you said 8' box, mine is on a 6'9" box as you can see - even more storage space on an 8' box of course. One potential problem with an 8' box is the rear jacks.

RE: Largest pop-up?

What was the largest pop-up that is currently being produced AND what is the largest ever made that anyone's heard of. Disquieted minds want to know. Randy
This one is still in the planning stages for the Octamog and other larger vehicles:

RE: XP Camper - New Hardside Pop-Up (Spy Pics)

I'm guessing that 95% of TC owners have no desire or need to drive a flat bed around when not using the camper...
You may be right, but soon there will a product to appeal to the other 5% (including me). Just look at how popular this thread was:
http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/17978710.cfm
I think of the XP as a motorhome that can be converted into a flatbed truck when necessary, rather than a typical truck and camper combo.
Cheers
Mark
ps there are several companies selling flatbeds for pickups, so there must be a market for them:

RE: XP Camper - New Hardside Pop-Up (Spy Pics)

Why is "no propane" an advantage? Does it really limit where you can go with it? I've only heard of restrictions with a few tunnels, ferrys, or bridges. Are there other places that restrict propane? Seems to me that the kind of places where this is designed to go would have few restrictions, if any. I'm obviously missing something...
I believe propane is harder to find in some areas...south of the border or other countries. I assume propane leaks can kill you.
Also, Earthroamer has a good write-up about the advantages of no propane:
http://www.earthroamer.com/tab_xpedition_vehicles/xvlt3_systems.html
I understand that xp campers will be available as a shell model that you can finish as you like, including having propane appliances if that is your wish.
